Which parishes will sponsor the regional school?

A. Immaculate Heart of Mary in Minnetonka and St. John’s in Hopkins will sponsor the regional school. In the future, other Catholic Schools in the area may join, and if so, will join the school as established by Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. John’s.

Q. Why are the other parishes in the region not joining the regional school?
A. There were a variety of reasons including proximity, transportation, parish culture but most importantly, belief in their own viability to remain a parish school. From the beginning of the shared resources discussion it was made clear that decisions would be made locally.

Q. What are the benefits of a regional school?
A. The benefits of a regional school are many:

  • Establish a strong, viable Catholic school accessible to the entire region
  • Increased funding to provide 21st century facilities for 21st century learning
  • Stabilized enrollment that allows for healthy class sizes
  • Increased elective class options
  • Stronger and more varied extracurricular activities
  • Blending the best of the two school’s cultures

Bringing the IHM and St. John’s communities together, each with their own wonderful culture, will result in a strong Catholic school that will serve the region for many generations.

Q. What will be the name of the new school?
A. With input from the Advancement Committee and the Advisory Council, the Board of Directors submitted three possible names to the Archbishop for consideration. On December 5, 2012, the Regional School Advisory Council was pleased to annouce the name for the new regional school will be Notre Dame Academy.
