Teachers and staff use email as the primary means of communicating with parents. However, a good old-fashioned phone call is always welcome. You should expect a return communication within 24 hours (weekends and breaks not included). Dr. Bonita Jungels has passionately served in Catholic schools for over thirty years working with preschool through 12th grade students. She holds several degrees including a doctorate in Leadership, Policy and Administration. She believes that our primary goal is to share the joy of Christ with others and through Him we will grow, learn and serve others in an amazing NDA faith community we call family.
Mrs. Liz Flom has been working in the school office since 2014, and has a business and education background. Over the past nineteen years, she has been involved in the school as a parent, volunteer and employee. Her favorite time of year is back to school time when the students and families are back in the building.
Mrs. Louise Wilson is the first person you meet when you come to Notre Dame Academy. Her English accent is noticed by all and loved by the students, who repeat all the announcements she makes on the PA system. She previously worked at St. Gabriel’s Parish before starting at Notre Dame Academy in 2013, where she is happy and blessed working with your children every day.
Ms. Vivian Pritchard comes to Notre Dame Academy after spending many years doing Development work and volunteer work in a variety of Catholic school settings. Ms. Pritchard started at NDA teaching in the preschool, and then was excited to transition to the newly created development role to use her expertise to advance the mission of the school. Ms. Pritchard loves the welcoming and receptive demeanor of the NDA community.
Mrs. Joann Meyer began working at Notre Dame Academy in 2016. Mrs. Meyer, her husband and their three children have been part of the school community since 2006. After working in the corporate world for several years, Mrs. Meyer feels blessed to spend her days in the school office and loves welcoming new students and their families.
Mrs. Jennie Schletty and her husband, Mark, have three children at Notre Dame Academy. John is in eighth grade, Grace is in fifth grade, and Thomas is in third grade. Mrs. Schletty is happy to help wherever she is needed at school. When she isn’t at NDA, Mrs. Schletty is going to grad school. Learning is fun and education is so important.
Discovery Center Teachers
Site Director and Lead Discovery Teacher, Marlissa Carpenter joined Lake Area Discovery Center right out of college in 2008 and has been teaching and mentoring for several years. She received a B.S. in Elementary Education/ PrePrimary Speciality from the University of Northwestern St. Paul and has a MN teaching licence. Marlissa is a dynamic, energetic teacher who enjoys being that first step into school, developing a love for learning at a young age. She joined the NDA Discovery Center Fall of 2019. When not at school, Marlissa enjoys being with friends and family at the cabin, watching the MN Twins, board games, bike riding, and spending time at home with her husband Jacob and daughter Maevyn.
This is Ms. Bylund‘s second year being a teacher assistant with NDA, and this is her 17th year of working in early childhood education/preschool. Children are the love of her life. They bring such enthusiasm in learning about God and the world. Ms. Bylund’s specialty is in working with children in social/emotional learning in areas such as learning to share, managing emotions, and individual/group problem solving. Ms. Bylund‘s family consists of her adult son, Jacob, her daughter, Katie, and her son-in-law, Forrest. Her other passion is scrapbooking.
Mrs. Bodea received her Bachelor’s Degree in English from the University of Northwestern in 2009. This is her fourth year teaching preschool, but she has also previously taught infants, toddlers, and school-age children. Mrs. Bodea loves being able to help children learn and develop academic and life skills. She enjoys their contagious energy and caring hearts. When she is not at school, Mrs. Bodea enjoys spending time outside with her husband, visiting family, travelling to new places, and gardening.
Mrs. Sarah Van Valkenburg-Gernert is joining the Notre Dame Academy team for the 2020-2021 school year. She graduated from Bemidji State University with a degree in Elementary Education and has her MN Teaching License. In her free time, Sarah likes to spend time with her husband, family, and friends. She also enjoys crossword, jigsaw, and sudoku puzzles. Sarah is very excited for the school year ahead!
Ms. Heather Discher has worn many hats working for both Notre Dame Academy and Immaculate Heart of Mary. Ms. Discher loves being in the classroom and enjoys creating a close bond with her young students. Ms. Discher loves spending time with her family which includes two daughters who both attend NDA.
Hallie Keenan is the Kindergarten teacher at Notre Dame Academy. She strives to create a hands-on, active environment for her students to succeed and grow. Mrs. Tschida is excited to be teaching at Notre Dame Academy. She has a background in business and education and has been working in Catholic schools for the past few years. It is her passion to instill a love of learning in students and help them develop a desire to become life long learners. In her free time she enjoys being with family and friends, attending her children’s sporting events, swimming, going for walks with her dogs, biking, reading, and traveling.
Mrs. Schneeman is so excited to teach her third year at Notre Dame Academy. She is a graduate from the University of St. Thomas and has a passion for the Lord and working with children. She takes the time to get to know all of her students and strives to create a welcoming and fun classroom environment where everyone can reach their full potential.
Ms. Prudence O’Connor is a dedicated, well-educated teaching professional. She comes from a family of educators and has experience with a variety of children in a wide range of settings. Ms. O’Connor embodies the principles of a lifelong learner.
Teaching at Notre Dame Academy is like coming home for Mrs. Segar, for 12 years she taught third grade with Mrs Gross! Her recent experience is with 2nd and 3rd graders, as well as serving as a math and reading interventionist for all elementary grades. She created a class called “Academics in Motion” where students were able to learn math and reading skills while being physically active. Mrs. Segar lives in Chaska with her husband and two daughers.
Mrs. Gross is the third grade teacher at Notre Dame Academy. She has committed her entire professional career of over twenty-five years to Catholic education. Mrs. Gross brings our NDA mission to life every day providing a program of academic excellence, grounded in faith, maximizing the strengths of her students. She is an advocate for her students’ needs and strives to meet the potential of all her students.
Mr. Weeres loves being the fourth grade teacher at NDA and we are excited he joined the downstairs hallway! Mr. Weeres has been a Catholic school teacher for the past five years. When Mr. Weeres is not teaching, he enjoys fishing and spending time with his fiancé and their dog, Bo.
Mrs. Janel Dysart is in her twenty-first year of teaching. She has taught fifth grade for the past eighteen years and also spent three years as an Elementary Music Specialist. She loves coming up with new and creative projects for her students, enjoys incorporating technology whenever she can, and her favorite class activity is Literature Circles. Middle School Teachers
Jerry Dargis graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BS in Environmental Education and Natural Resources in 1998 and started his teaching career outside as an environmental education specialist. He then taught in conventional classrooms at Nativity of Mary, St. Alphonsus, Visitation, and Thomas Jefferson High School. Mr. Dargis is in his fifth year at Notre Dame Academy. He lives in Bloomington, MN, with his wife of 27 years, three daughters, two cats, one dog and a corn snake named Sid.
Mr. Kelly Dopp lives in Elk River, Minnesota with his wife, two children and two dogs. This is his fifth year teaching Social Studies at Notre Dame Academy and couldn’t possibly love his job any more than he already does! He previously taught at a Jewish school in St. Louis Park, and prior to that he spent twelve years in the printing industry.
Ms. Aggie Maurer enjoys teaching language arts. This is her fourth year at Notre Dame Academy. She loves getting to know each and every one of her students. During her free time, she enjoys the outdoors, music, photography and reading. Ms. Maurer loves meeting new people, and is sure she will be learning just as much as her students!
Mr. Scott Athey joins NDA after one year of teaching high school and middle school Mathematics at Holy Trinity in Winsted followed by one year of teaching Theology at Cathedral High School in Saint Cloud. Mr. Athey looks forward to being able to teach both middle school Religion and Math. He has recently moved to the area with his wife, Sydney, and their son, Peter. Mr. Athey attended Saint Cloud State for his undergraduate studies; he has done post graduate studies at The University of Saint Thomas in Saint Paul and The Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome, Italy. Mr. Athey enjoys praying, discussing current events and theological topics, watching movies, and of course spending time with family and friends.
Mrs. Pam Murphy is a new teacher at NDA, but is not new to NDA or teaching. She has three daughters and a son at NDA, and she has been a math teacher for many years, most recently at Southwest High School in Minneapolis. In her classroom, she likes to relate math to the “real world” for her students. She enjoys coaching swimming (or any sport), doing Tae Kwon Do, reading, and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Maggie Turner started at St. John’s in 2007 and has been with NDA since the beginning. She loves seeing the kids practice speaking in another language and being excited to learn about different cultures. Mrs. Turner enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.
Mr. Daren Tesch has been teaching in the Catholic school system for almost two decades. On any day you may find him teaching health to the middle school students in the classroom, teaching Physical Education to the preschoolers, or supervising the gym during our home sporting events. He believes in teaching life long health skills to keep our students healthy long after they leave Notre Dame Academy.
Jesse Robertson graduated from Moorhead State University with a BS in Elementary Education in 1995. He started his teaching career in Houston, Texas; teaching 5th and 6th grade students. He then moved back to Minnesota and taught at The Tesseract School, Nativity of Mary Catholic School, and Howard Lake – Waverly – Winsted Public Schools. Mr. Robertson is in his first year at Notre Dame Academy. He lives in Minnetrista, MN, with his wife of 25 years, two daughters, a dog, and a cat.
Dr. Bill Kobe, after being a chiropractor for twenty-five years, returned to what he initially started to do upon graduating from high school – being an art teacher and artist. He has been teaching visual arts for the past eighteen years, here in Minnesota, Florida and the past five summers in Beijing, China. He brings years of experience in teaching and would like to add to the overall richness of the arts offerings at NDA by inspiring his students to be fearless and curious creators.
Mrs. Lori Wukmir has spent the last fourteen years with the NDA community, teaching music and drama! A native of Colorado, she first made a living in the Twin Cities as an actress before receiving her teaching license from the University of Minnesota. She loves getting to know ALL the kids at NDA, but looks forward most to putting them all on stage!
Mr. Bestler came to be the Director of Bands at the Hopkins/Minnetonka Catholic Schools in 2000 after several years of working at Hopkins High School. In addition to directing the Notre Dame Academy Bands, he is a performing multi-instrumentalist in the Twin Cities metro area and conducts two adult professional bands. Father Paul Haverstock is the parochial administrator of St Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church in Hopkins. A native of Eden Prairie, Fr. Paul was raised Lutheran (Missouri Synod) and converted to Catholicism in 2006 thanks to the witness of his college roommate. He was ordained a priest by Archbishop Hebda in 2016. Fr Paul’s first assignment was in Shakopee, where he loved spending time in the parish school. He is so excited to be a part of Notre Dame Academy.
Fr. John serves as the pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Canonical Administrator of Notre Dame Academy. Having gone through Catholic Schools for most of his life, he is convinced of the value of a Catholic education. Being a part of Notre Dame Academy fills him with a whole lot of joy.
Mrs. Jill Rost is the Hopkins school counselor who works with our 7th & 8th graders. One of her roles at NDA is to teach the social/emotional components of the Health curriculum. With 20 years of experience as a school counselor, she finds a variety of ways to support student’s mental health. Her goal at NDA is to help all students reach their full potential. As a parent of two grown children, she knows what it’s like to raise middle schoolers, so please feel free to reach out to her with questions or concerns!
Mrs. Pat Boyd is the district nurse who has supported NDA since the start. She loves working with children as a Licensed School Nurse and wants to provide a safe and healthy environment for your children. Mrs. Boyd and her husband raised three daughters and now love spending time with two wonderful grandsons.
Mrs. Krista Wiederholt is delighted to be reading, researching, wondering and exploring with students in our elementary school library, including three of her four children who currently attend NDA. Mrs. Wiederholt employs her enthusiasm, faith and creativity to make the library an exciting and engaging part of every student’s week.
Mrs. Kathie Witta absolutely loves working with NDA students! After more than twenty-five years of working with seniors, Kathie, an IHM parishioner, has been with NDA since its first day. Thanks to her many grandchildren, Mrs. Witta relates well to kids and understands the importance of reading to help students in their life beyond school.
Ms. Rosie Murungi is a High-Quality Ingredient Kosher Certified Chef with over thirteen years of experience in the fast-pace environment handling food, menu planning, recipe development, and budgeting. Ms. Murungi holds an Associate Degree in Culinary Specialty and an Associate Degree in Restaurant Management. She enjoys providing healthy and delicious food to the students everyday.
Mrs. Mergen is the Assistant Food Service Manager in the Lions’ Den Cafe. After “retiring” from mortgage banking in 2003 to raise three girls (of which two attended NDA, PK through 8th grade) she is blessed to be working in a place she has called home since 2006. The most favorite part of her day is interacting with each student as if they were her own and capturing many precious moments as an NDA photographer.
Mrs. Teresa Williams and her husband, Bud, have two daughters at Notre Dame Academy. Anna is in the eighth grade and Claire is in seventh grade. When Mrs. Williams isn’t working or at school, her family enjoys traveling, biking and camping.
Mrs. Jamie Martin and her husband, Drew, have one son, David in third grade at NDA. When she isn’t helping out in the kitchen at school, Mrs. Martin and her family enjoy working on renovating their house, playing with their two Goldendoodles, and she loves to crochet!
Notre Dame Academy provides quality extended-day child care and summer programs for our students, K-8th grade. The program provides teacher-directed activities as well as free play, homework help, arts and crafts, music, dance and technology.
Mr. Milton Stephens is the lead member of the Lions Lair team at NDA. He enjoys getting to know students outside the classroom before and after school and during school breaks. He also serves as a substitute teacher at NDA and loves the challenge of whatever class the day may bring! At school Mass, you may spot Mr. Stephens at the piano serving as NDA’s Mass accompanist. Mr. Stephens grew up in Minnetonka, attended Hopkins High School, and graduated from the University of Minnesota, majoring in Mathematics. He feels so blessed to be a part of the NDA family!
Mr. Alessandro Narez Meza loves learning new things and growing in his faith. He aspires to help others and to help them succeed. He hopes of becoming a nurse practitioner in the coming years. Fun fact: He is the youngest faculty member currently at NDA!
